SISEC 2027: Call for Papers Now Open on Power, Organisational Practices and the Digitalisation of Work

The Call for Papers is now open for Stream 7 – “Power, Organisational Practices and Processes of Work Digitalisation”, as part of the 11th SISEC Conference 2027, which will take place in Lecce from 27 to 30 January 2027, under the overarching theme “The Power of Ideas. Ideas, Concepts and Issues in Economic Sociology”.

The stream aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for discussing the transformations of work in the digital age, with particular attention to emerging configurations of organisational power, the impact of technology and artificial intelligence, and the relationships between autonomy, control and worker participation.
The increasing adoption of algorithms, platforms and digital infrastructures is reshaping not only tools and procedures, but also skills, professional identities, hierarchies and ways of organising work. In this context, it is essential to understand how technologies are introduced, used, adapted and negotiated within organisations.

The Call invites researchers to submit theoretical and empirical contributions exploring the relationship between technological innovation, organisational practices and power dynamics, while recognising the active role of individuals in digital transformation processes.

Key topics of interest include:

  • Algorithmic management and the transformation of organisational practices;
  • Remote work, platform work and activities supporting artificial intelligence systems;
  • Digital infrastructures and new forms of coordination;
  • Autonomy, control and forms of resistance in the workplace;
  • Innovation and organisational fragmentation;
  • Changing spatial and temporal dimensions of work;
  • The evolution of skills and professionalisation processes associated with artificial intelligence.

Particular attention will also be given to the often invisible labour underpinning digital and AI systems, as well as emerging inequalities and transformations in forms of collective representation.

The stream is coordinated by Attila Bruni (University of Trento), Stefania Capogna (Link Campus University), Anna Carreri (University of Verona), Lorenzo Cini (University of Naples Federico II), Luigi Di Cataldo (University of Brescia), Marco Marrone (University of Salento) and Lia Tirabeni (University of Milano-Bicocca).

Contributions may be submitted in Italian or English.
